Problems caused by your car being out of alignment

When you continue to drive your car or truck when it is out of alignment, you can cause many problems for yourself.  Some problems can be expensive too.

  • Uneven tire wear leads to premature tire replacement and a car that is less safe.  When all four tires have the maximum amount of tread on the road, it is the safest.  This is because tread improves your stopping distance and handling in emergency situations.
  • Driving your car with a bad alignment for too long can actually cause problems in your suspension system.  This can expensive to repair.  It’s certainly better to get your car aligned when you realize a problem.
  • Handling and performance is diminished.  When your car is out of alignment, it may pull to one side or another or constantly drift.  Constantly turning the wheel means you are fighting a tires that want to go another way.

Symptoms that may mean your car is out of alignment:

  • You notice your tires are wearing prematurely.
  • You notice your tire(s) are wearing on the outside or inside too much.
  • You constantly have to compensate your steering because the car is pulling to one side.
  • If you let your hand off the steering wheel on a straight road, it drifts.

What causes a car to go out of alignment?

  • Hitting a curb or other object, especially with your front wheels.
  • Running over a pot hole.  Not all potholes will cause out of alignment on all cars, but some certainly will.

How does a wheel alignment help?

When we perform a wheel alignment on your car, our job is to make sure all four wheels are working together.  When all four wheels are lined up and pointed in the same direction properly they work together.  Cars with a bad alignment means one or more tires are aiming in a different direction.  The tires are then fighting each other.

Getting your car aligned is an excellent way to maximize your tire life and to save yourself from expensive suspension repairs.
