Make Sure Your Heater and Defrosters Are Working Properly Posted on Dec 18 2017

Make Sure Your Heater and Defrosters Are Working ProperlyEven though Southern California winters are generally mild, the temperatures will still drop overnight and it will rain from time to time. We can get some really foggy mornings here in Simi Valley, as well. That means it’s important to make sure your car’s heater, defrosters and other important components are working well for added comfort and improved visibility during the next few months.

Heater

The heater is one part of your vehicle’s general air conditioning system. It draws heat from the engine compartment to bring warm air into the passenger cabin. On those chilly mornings, it’s nice to crank up the heat for a comfortable commute into work. If the air doesn’t seem to be blowing properly, you may need to get your vents cleaned. You cabin air filter could also be dirty. You’ll want to replace that periodically to make sure the air you breathe inside the car is clean and that heater/AC air flow is as efficient as possible. Otherwise, any concerns with your car’s heating/AC system are worth having checked out at Bill’s Quality Auto Care.

Defrosters

All vehicles will have a front defroster that is part of the heating/AC system. When you turn it on, it should clear up the front window pretty quickly and the front side windows should also start to defrost. If it’s not working properly, it’s worth getting inspected. If your visibility is obscured by fogged up windows, it can obviously be dangerous (especially on SoCal’s busy roads and freeways).

Windshield Wipers

You’ll definitely want to make sure your windshield wiper blades are in good shape throughout the winter and early spring months. If it’s raining or foggy, effective wipers will really make a difference in your visibility.

Headlights, Tail Lights and Fog Lights

Likewise, having your headlights, tail lights and any fog lights in good working condition will be important if visibility is limited due to rain, fog or darkness. Make sure you can see clearly and other drivers on the road can see you. Consider a hazy headlight restoration or install new bulbs as needed.
